Garth The Fun Hater

Today I did what any normal person would do. I took pictures of my sourdough starter from the top… and then tilted the jar a bit to get a picture of his butt so I could check his progress and ask questions.

I did pull band down to check progress he hasn’t grown at all in 3 days

Garth is alive. He has bubbles. He has potential. He’s just in his awkward teenage phase where he eats, sleeps, contributes nothing, and won’t grow up.

He’s almost a week old (tomorrow) and, much like a real child, he’s making me question if he’s healthy and what percentile his weight and height are in and if it’s a normal phase.

He’s not rising much, he’s separating a little, and he mostly smells like flour and water. Basically the sourdough equivalent of “I’m fine”, but is he?

So today he’ll get another meal, (I might switch to bread flour and distilled water) another pep talk, and another night in his luxury microwave apartment…power off of course I’m not an animal.

All helpful hints are much appreciated.

Party on, Garth. We’re all rooting for you. 🍞

Another friend of mine I talked to this week-end is doing the sourdough thing. She said it took 40 days for hers to start doing anything….so hang in there! She follows the Sourdough Hoe and says she has good advice. 😉

I do think Cassandra is doing great. Better than all of them and she’s the youngest, she should be ready to blossom into a nice loaf my Saturday or Sunday.
