Netflix and Chill

I seem to be in my binge-watching era lately, so here’s a rundown of what I’ve been watching while pretending I have other productive things to do…like being a mom and not binging Bluey.

Dead to Me
Dark humor, friendship, grief, lies, and twists to make you question every character. Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini are fantastic together. One minute you’re laughing, the next minute you’re wondering how things got so out of control. It also made me wonder if I say “fuck” too much and don’t drink enough wine.

Nobody Wants This
A cute rom-com series with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. Funny, easy to watch, and one of those shows that makes you root for the characters even when they’re making weird decisions.

Stranger Things
At this point, if you haven’t watched it, where have you been? Kids on bikes, monsters from another dimension, 80s nostalgia, and every season manages to pull you right back in. The series is officially over, which feels stupid considering some of us weren’t emotionally prepared for that.

Bridgerton
Part romance, part drama, part “why is everyone so attractive?” Beautiful costumes, family drama, gossip, and enough scandal to keep things interesting. Not exactly historically accurate, but that’s not why we’re watching. Let’s just say it’s somewhere between a period drama and 50 Shades of Grey’s much classier cousin. Plenty of romance, plenty of steam, and far fewer conversations about contracts and safe words.

Worst Ex Ever
Proof that dating can always be worse. If you don’t argue with your husband about buying the wrong flavor of potato chips (plain for me) Every episode makes you appreciate your current relationship, your single life, or both. Equal parts fascinating and terrifying.

The Crash
A documentary that dives into the rise and fall of crazy and the people behind it. Interesting, frustrating, and one of those stories that makes you wonder how people keep getting away with things until they don’t.

American Murder: Gabby Petito
Heartbreaking from start to finish. The documentary puts together the timeline through footage, messages, and social media posts in a way that makes the story feel even more real. Difficult to watch at times, but incredibly well done.

Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
A reminder that people on the internet aren’t always who they claim to be. Part mystery, questionable, and the kind of documentary that will have you saying, “Wait…WTF?”

One thing I don’t love is Netflix splitting shows into “Part 1” and “Part 2” now. The whole reason streaming became popular was so we didn’t have to wait a week for the next episode or months for the next half of a season. Now we’re right back to waiting again like it’s 2005 and somebody just told me to tune in next Thursday or next February.

What should I watch next? I’m scrolling Netflix for 30 minutes before rewatching something I’ve already seen…I’ve rewatched many just because I’m out of ideas.

Tracie, if you’re reading this, several of these are excellent reasons to finally get Netflix again.
