Colorado-cation: Fall Edition
While everybody in Kansas is out here foaming at the mouth for pumpkin spice season, buying leaf shaped cookies and pretending 78 degrees feels like fall, I already know where I’ll be…Back in Colorado. Living my best life at Musso Farms in Pueblo during green chile season.
Forget pumpkin spice. REAL Coloradans know the smell of roasting Pueblo green chile is the official start of fall. Not a candle. Not a latte. Not a decorative gourd sitting on your counter next to a sign that says “Gather.”
I’m talking giant roasters outside, people loading up bushels like they’re preparing for the apocalypse, and everyone leaving smelling faintly like smoke and happiness.
Musso Farms doesn’t just sell green chile. They turned it into a lifestyle. Green chile seasoning. Green chile snacks. Green chile EVERYTHING…even green chile coffee and WINE because they looked at normal fall flavors and said, “That’s cute, but what if it burned a little?”
This fall I’ll be hauling coolers of Pueblo green chile back to Kansas while the pumpkin spice crowd lines up for another candle that smells like cinnamon broomsticks. Wine-d down with me during my next trip this fall somewhere between the chile roasters and poor financial decisions at Musso Farms. I can’t wait to see those aspens too!
