Vacation, Day…Tuesday?

Here I am with my little one at grandma’s for the second beautiful morning. We had a pretty big day yesterday…waking up early and going right outside to enjoy nature.

Karsyn loves it outside, but it’s a whole new world to her here. We started the day having coffee on the porch and watching the hummingbirds fly around like maniacs. This brings me to my ponder of the day.

These cool tiny birds are flying around with their wings fluttering at 4,000 RPM, absolutely zooted from the Red Bull in the feeders (sugar water gives them wiiiiiiings). There’s one particular hummingbird that guards the feeder. He is very colorful, which my mom says means he’s a male. Of course, if any other hummingbird tries to take a sip of his crack water, he speeds down and chases them off. Sometimes they dance a little, but the other hummingbird takes off, and Ricky Bobby goes right back up to his tree and waits for more intruders.

The male being so colorful makes me wonder if they live in a Pleasantville-type world where they only turn colorful once they reach…sexual maturity. That’s why all the poor female hummingbirds don’t get any color because the male hummingbird is a fast little pimp saying, “wham, bam, thank you ma’am.”

After watching the birds and flocking turkeys, we planted flowers, then went into town to go to The Dog Bar, a cool local spot that’s basically a landmark for the town. My daughter got a cute pink hat since the sun is becoming her best friend and giving her more color than the hummingbirds.

Today we’ll probably plant more flowers, watch my daughter run around and point at everything, go on more ATV rides (which Karsyn thought was the coolest thing in the world yesterday), and go visit my mom’s bestie down the street in La Veta. We’ll have lunch there, then probably come back to my mom’s house for more porch Beehive or wine-ding down…or both, depending on the day.

Thanks for coming by, and stay tuned for more of us putting the rad in Colorado.
