If I had my own walk-up song or theme music, I’d like to think I could give the credit to Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. This song was also the finale at our wedding. It always reminds me that if you have a big dream or idea in your head… go for it. You never know where it might lead or how big it might become. Which brings me to this blog: Whining, Wine-ing, & Winning.
This blog started as a small hobby — a place to get my thoughts out and come back later to see what I’ve learned and how far I’ve come as a stay-at-home mom. Something I always dreamed about doing… most days. I chose to do it online so everything would always be saved somewhere safe, especially since my toddler enjoys tearing up, flushing, or occasionally eating important things.
At first it was simply about everyday mom life — the funny things kids say and do, the tempers, the tears, the laughs, and yes, the gross moments too. I hoped maybe other parents would read it and tell me if some of the wild things happening in my house also happen in theirs… or if my youngest is just running a series of personal attacks against me. I’m still not entirely convinced either way.
Then came the cooking side of things. Friends and family are always asking me for recipes, and whenever I make something that looks fancy, I’m usually quick to post it on Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat as a humble brag. Eventually I thought, why not put those here too? It seemed like it could be fun. So far, it is — challenging at times, but fun, and I’m starting to get the hang of it.
After that, I decided to lean into something I’ve always loved: writing. My teachers growing up would probably say I had a pretty wild imagination, and they wouldn’t be wrong. I kept secret journals and usually did pretty well when creative writing assignments came around.
That imagination eventually turned into The Berniece Chronicles — a mostly fictional series about a family surviving life in Northeast Kansas after a wild and unexpected adventure that paused their plans to move to Florida. Berniece, her husband Brutus, and their daughter Bee navigate family chaos, ridiculous situations, and everyday life in a way that sometimes feels like a slightly unhinged family sitcom.
