Annnd, We’re Back

After a few days recovering from a very eventful weekend, I finally got settled, got the wild one down for a nap, put my feet up, and pulled out my laptop to write.

This morning was eventful. I managed to get both myself and my toddler showered and bathed, make us a nice breakfast, squeeze in a quick Target run, and finish it all off with lunch at Chick-fil-A.

Lots of progress made this morning… until…

I made one rookie mistake.

I decided to take my shower.

Not a long one. Just a quick rinse to remind myself I’m still human, because no one enjoys the smell of unwashed regrets lingering in the background.

I thought this was a good call until I saw the aftermath…

One little person.

One tiny two-year-old.

In about five minutes.

The kind of destruction that usually looks like you left a dog home alone for an hour — except this tiny human does it and then looks at you like, “What?” when you catch them.

Toys. Every. Where.

Puzzle pieces scattered everywhere.

A baby doll face down on the floor like she didn’t want to be involved and had been asked not to look.

Meanwhile I’m standing there saying WTF in my head… and maybe accidentally out loud.

Just one tiny tornado.

I stood there staring when I heard a sweet little voice behind me say:

“Hiiiiiii…”

“Mum Moo.”

Which, in her language, means “Love you.”

And honestly, how can I even be mad?

It almost felt as if she did it as a favor.

Like, “Here Mom. Just in case you get bored while I nap, now you’ll have something to do.”

You’re welcome, Momma.

But these are the moments.

The stay-at-home mom memories.

The ones I’ll laugh about tonight when my husband tells me about his day at work, and I share my own stories from mine.

I hope this can relate to other moms out there trying to survive the day on whatever sleep your child allows you — even with a bedtime routine that somehow still includes:

a bedtime story,
a back scratch,
a drink of water,
and suddenly… a trip to the potty.

All the things you already handled before bedtime.

Plus a surprise 6:30 a.m. wake-up call.

If you’re living this life too, I see you.

Sit down, have a good laugh, and feel free to wine-d down with me.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear your stories too.

Let’s survive this adventure together.
