How would you improve your community?
Support local businesses.
Not in the “like their Facebook page and forget about them” kind of way. I mean actually support them. .
Here’s the thing…these places? They’re not run by some giant corporation sitting in a high-rise somewhere. They’re run by people who live here. People raising kids here. People trying to make it work the same way the rest of us are.
The coffee shop down the street isn’t just coffee. It’s someone’s early mornings, long days, and probably a whole lot of stress behind the scenes.
The little boutique? That’s someone taking a risk, hoping people walk through the door instead of walking by.
The restaurant? That’s someone dealing with supply costs, staffing headaches, and still trying to put out good food at the end of the day, and they usually have the BEST food.
I get it. It’s easy to click “add to cart” and have something show up on your porch two days or hours later. I do it too. No shame in the convenience game…but if we want our communities to actually feel like communities, we have to put something back into them.
Shop local when you can. Share their posts. Tell your friends. Leave a review. Bring your kids in so they grow up knowing these places exist, because once they’re gone, they’re gone. And suddenly everything starts to look the same…feel the same…be the same.
That’s not the kind of community I want to live in.
So no, I’m not out here trying to fix everything, but if we all just showed up a little more for the people building something right in front of us? That would be a pretty good place to start. Find that local restaurant and wine-d down a little.
