My dog, Rumple

Daily writing prompt
Which animal would you compare yourself to and why?

If I had to compare myself to animal, it would most likely be my dog.

My dog Rumple is dramatic, funny, loud, opinionated, aware of everything going on around him… but also doesn’t give a shit. Obnoxious, curious, and completely unapologetic about it. Honestly? Kind of like myself.

I’m all over the place and just as curious as he is. I like to explore and stick my nose into things where it probably doesn’t belong (excluding butts… because gross).

After last night’s thunderstorm, and my dog feeling completely victimized by the whole situation—keeping the house up all night barking—I almost lost my patience and was about ready to shake the poor dude. But then I had to stop and feel bad for him, because sometimes I feel like people probably look at me the same way.

I’m a mess sometimes. Sometimes proud of it. Other times regretful, staring up at people I’ve sent spiraling with a cute little “I’m sorry” face.

I’m not saying I’m that girl (even though some people might think so), but honestly… who cares? Take me as I am or keep walking.

I like to be the one that greets all the humans. I like to say hi to all the other dogs. I like to be the one bouncing around like no one’s watching. It works for me.

The only thing Rumple and I don’t have in common is thunderstorms. I actually love thunderstorms. Or at least I used to… until Rumple came into the picture. Now they mostly feel like pending weather alerts I’m not emotionally prepared to deal with.

Bottom line is this: I can be annoying, just like everyone can be in their own way. But I’m still lovable. I’ll always have your back, and you’ll always be able to find a friend in me.

It’s funny that this was the prompt today, because I was already planning to write about last night’s chaos with my dog anyway. Turns out… this was an even better story.
